The active ingredient azadirachtin together with other liminoids of neem such as Salanin, Nimbidin and Nimbin present in Vembu, acts as an Antifeedant, Growth Regulator, Sterilant, Anti-Ovipositor and Insect Repellent and Insect repellent
 Vembu is more effective on the immature/young life stages of insects than eggs or adults. It disrupts the hormonal activity in the quiescent pupal stage and prevents adult emergence very effectively. Vembu controls about 300 insect species, mites, termites, soil nematodes and some fungi. It also has some ectoparasitic properties as well
